GENERAL GUIDELINES



GENERAL GUIDELINES

Suggested by the WV Department of Agriculture Health Requirements- Pullorum/Typhoid testing be conducted prior to exhibiting birds at the fair.

1.             All project animals must be registered with the WVU Extension Office or FFA Advisor by June 1, 2017.

2.             Market Pen or Turkeys will be weighed in on Sunday July 16, 2017 beginning at 5:00pm. Market Pen of Chickens will be weighed in on Monday evening July 17, 2017.

3.             **The barn will be closed to the public and parents during the chicken weigh in and during the poultry show**

4.             The American Standard of Perfection as revised by the American Poultry Association will be the guide for the Judges in awarding premiums.

5.             Single birds cannot compete in Trio. Birds in Trio cannot compete single.

6.             The term Cock & Hen- Birds hatched prior to January 1, the year of the fair. Cockerel & Pullet- Birds hatched prior to January 1, the year of the fair. Trio- Consisting of on Cock or Cockerel and two Hens or Pullets,

7.             Exhibitors are requested to see entry tags that are placed on each coop.

8.             Cages will not be locked. Food and water bowls will be provided. If you choose to not to use what is provided, you will need to use containers that can be zip tied to the cage. You cannot place bowls in the cage for the animals to upset.

9.             Only animals that are NOT going to be sold at the livestock sale can be removed after the show on Wednesday July 19, 2017. All Livestock has to be removed by Sunday, July 23, 2017 by 9:00am.

10.         Showmanship Judging is based on:

A: Contestant’s ability to properly show his/her animal to the Judge.

B: Appearance of animal and exhibitor

C: Appearance of contestants; such as proper dress, neatness, clean clothing, boots, grooming, and sportsmanship.

D: Knowledge of animal project, marketing and livestock industry.

11.         Market Pens can only be shown in the market pen class.

Market Pen of Chickens- Pen will consist of 3 birds weighing a minimum of 4 pounds each. (Ideal weight is 7 pounds) Total pen weight must be a minimum of 12 pounds.


**You need to bring a 3 slot sale pen**


NO RABBIT CAGES CAN BE USED


Market Pen of Turkeys- Pen will consist of 1 bird weighing a minimum of 16 pounds.
